Physical Standards

Candidates must meet the physical and medical standards laid down in Appendix-III of the notification. Standards vary by service (Army, Navy, Air Force).

All papers are objective type. General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics are set bilingually in English and Hindi. English paper is in English only. Negative marking: one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for each wrong answer. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.

SSB Interview Marks

Selection Process

  1. Written Examination (13 September 2026) at UPSC test centres across India.
  2. SSB Interview — 5-day process at Services Selection Board. Stage-I (screening) on Day-1; those who clear move to Stage-II (psychology, GTO, personal interview). Conducted at SSB centres of Army, Navy or Air Force depending on first preference.
  3. Medical Examination at the recommending Services HQ medical board.
  4. Final Merit List — combined marks of Written + SSB. Posts allotted per merit and preference.
  5. Joining Letter issued by respective academy. Training commences July 2027 (IMA/INA/AFA) or October 2027 (OTA).

How to Apply for CDS-II 2026

  1. Visit upsconline.nic.in and register the One-Time Registration (URN) profile. Skip if already registered.
  2. Fill the Common Application Form (CAF). Upload photograph, signature and a live photo capture.
  3. Open the CDS-II 2026 examination-specific module. Choose academy preferences (IMA, INA, AFA, OTA in your priority order).
  4. Pay the ₹200 fee online (female / SC / ST: skip). Choose your exam centre.
  5. Submit before 09 June 2026, 6 PM. Save the application acknowledgement.
  6. No correction window after submission. Double-check before clicking Final Submit.
Centre preference is final. Apply early — UPSC closes centre allotment on first-come-first-served basis. Latecomers get whichever centre is still available.

About UPSC CDS-II 2026

The Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2026 is the UPSC's second annual recruitment cycle for short and permanent commission officers across the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Notification 11/2026 covers 451 vacancies across IMA Dehradun, INA Ezhimala, AFA Hyderabad and OTA Chennai (Men + Women).

The written exam runs on 13 September 2026 with three papers for IMA/INA/AFA candidates and two papers for OTA candidates. Each paper is objective, 100 marks, 2 hours, with one-third negative marking. Shortlisted candidates face the 5-day SSB Interview, where psychological aptitude, group testing and personal interview each contribute. Final merit combines written and SSB marks equally.
