⚠️ Important — what does today's announcement mean?

This is the 1st Stage CBT (CBT-1) Result + Per-Cat Cut-Off Marks for JE/DMS/CMA under CEN 05/2025. Per Para 13.2 of the official notification, the candidates listed are provisionally shortlisted for the 2nd Stage CBT (CBT-2) at the rate of 15 times the community-wise vacancies of posts notified against the RRB. They are NOT yet finally selected — final merit is based entirely on CBT-2 performance, followed by Document Verification + Medical Examination. There is NO CBAT for JE/DMS/CMA (unlike Section Controller CEN 04/2025).

What's today's announcement (13 May 2026)?

The CBT-1 Result + RRB-wise per-Category Cut-Off Marks for shortlisting candidates to CBT-2. Per Para 13.2 of CEN 05/2025, the shortlist is 15 times the community-wise vacancies of posts notified against each RRB (Railways reserves the right to revise). Candidates can view their individual scores and qualifying status by logging in on the official RRB website from 13.05.2026, 17:00 Hrs onwards using their Registration Number + Date of Birth.

Recruitment process — full stages
  1. CBT-1 (1st Stage Computer Based Test) — screening test, common across all posts. 100 questions, 90 minutes, 1/3 negative marking.
  2. CBT-2 (2nd Stage CBT) — post-specific syllabus (technical + common subjects). 150 questions, 120 minutes, virtual calculator available. This is the scoring stage that decides final merit.
  3. Document Verification (DV) — at 1:1 of vacancies based on CBT-2 Merit Index.
  4. Medical Examination — as per post-specific medical standard (A2 / A3 / B1 / C1 etc per Annexure A).
  5. Final Empanelment & appointment letter from concerned Railway Administration.

Note: CBT-1 is purely a screening test — its marks do NOT contribute to the final merit list. CBT-2 marks alone decide selection.

How is the final merit calculated? (Merit Index formula)

Final merit for DV is computed entirely from CBT-2 marks. CBT-1 marks (shown today) are used only for shortlisting to CBT-2 — they do not contribute to final selection.

Per Para 13.4 of CEN, the Merit Index formula (used to compare candidates across different Exam Groups):

Merit Index = Sq + (S − Sq) × (M − Mq) / (Mt − Mq)

  • M = candidate's marks (raw for single-session, normalised for multi-session CBT-2)
  • Mq = UR qualifying marks = 40
  • Mt = mean marks of top 0.1% (or top 10, whichever is larger) of all candidates in that paper
  • Sq = score assigned to Mq = 350
  • S = score assigned to Mt = 900

Why normalisation? CBT-1 was held in multiple shifts on 19/20/25 Feb 2026. To make merit fair across shifts of varying difficulty, RRB applies the normalisation formula. The values in today's cut-off table are normalised marks (out of 100), NOT raw marks.

What does each Cat No. mean? (per Annexure A of CEN)

Each Cat No. represents a specific post + engineering discipline. Examples from Annexure A:

  • Cat 1 — JE / Electrical
  • Cat 2 — JE / Electrical EMU & TRS
  • Cat 3 — JE / Electrical / TRD
  • Cat 4 — JE / Electrical / General Services
  • Cat 5 — JE / Electrical (Workshop)
  • Cat 6 — JE / Civil (P. Way & Bridge)
  • Cat 7 — JE / Civil (Design, Drawing & Estimation)
  • Cat 8 — JE / Civil (Works)
  • Cat 9 — JE / Civil / Workshop
  • Cat 10 — JE / Track Machine
  • Cat 11 — JE / Carriage & Wagon
  • Cat 12 — JE / Mechanical (Design & Workshop)
  • Cat 13 — JE / Mechanical / Power
  • Cat 14 — JE / Diesel Mechanical
  • Cat 15 — JE / Diesel Mechanical (Workshop)
  • Cat 16 — JE / Mechanical & Mechanical (Workshop)
  • Cat 17 — JE / Mechanical / Welder
  • ... and so on (Cats 18-27 cover S&T, IT, DMS, CMA, etc.)

Why different cats per RRB? Each RRB only recruits for posts that have vacancies in its jurisdiction — so Chennai shows ~18 cats while Kolkata shows ~21 cats. Missing cats had zero vacancies in that RRB.

The four Exam Groups for JE (Technical syllabus)

JE posts are grouped into four Exam Groups for the CBT-2 Technical Abilities section (Annexures VII-A to VII-D), plus a separate CMA Exam Group (Annexure VII-E):

  1. Mechanical & Allied — Mechanical, Production, Automobile, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Industrial, Machining, Tools & Machining, Tools & Die Making Engineering
  2. Electrical & Allied — Electrical Engineering
  3. Electronics & Allied — Electronics, Instrumentation & Control, Communication, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology
  4. Civil & Allied — Civil Engineering, B.Sc Civil Engineering (3 yr)
  5. CMA — B.Sc with Chemistry & Physics

DMS candidates use any of the JE Exam Groups except CMA.

Where is each RRB's official result PDF?

Each RRB publishes its own Result + Cut-Off PDFs on their official website (list of all 21 RRB websites in Para 16.0 of the detailed CEN). As soon as a new RRB declares, this page auto-updates with the direct download links for both Result and Cut-Off PDFs. If your RRB still shows "Awaiting", check back tomorrow — most RRBs declare within 1-3 days of each other.

I'm shortlisted — should I start CBT-2 preparation now?

Yes — strongly recommended. The CBT-2 syllabus per CEN Para 13.2:

  • General Awareness (15 questions) — current affairs, Indian geography/culture/history, polity, economy, environmental issues, sports, science & tech developments
  • Physics & Chemistry (15 questions) — up to 10th std CBSE syllabus
  • Basics of Computers & Applications (10 questions) — architecture, I/O devices, storage, networking, OS (Windows/Unix/Linux), MS Office, data representation, Internet, email, websites, browsers, viruses
  • Basics of Environment & Pollution Control (10 questions) — environmental basics, pollution control strategies, air/water/noise pollution, waste management, global warming, acid rain, ozone depletion
  • Technical Abilities (100 questions) — post-specific per Annexures VII-A/B/C/D/E of the CEN

Total 150 questions, 120 minutes, 1/3 negative marking, virtual calculator on screen. CBT-2 marks alone decide your final merit via the Merit Index formula.

Can I challenge a question or seek revaluation of my CBT-1?

Question-objection windows close before the result is published. Once the CBT-1 result is out, there is no provision for re-evaluation of CBT-1 marks. The result and cut-off published by RRB is final for CBT-1. Note that CBT-1 marks don't affect final selection anyway — only CBT-2 marks matter for the final merit list.
