⚠️ Important — what does today's announcement mean?

This is the CBT Result + Cut-Off for CBAT shortlist. Candidates whose roll numbers appear in the Result PDF are provisionally shortlisted for CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test) at the rate of 8 times the vacancies. They are NOT yet finally selected. Final selection happens only after CBAT + DV + Medical Examination clearance, with a combined merit of 70% CBT + 30% CBAT.

📋 About RRB Section Controller (CEN 04/2025)

📅 CBAT tentative date — 24 May 2026 (next stage)

Per Point 7 of the CBT result notice, the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) for provisionally qualified candidates of CEN 04/2025 is tentatively scheduled on 24.05.2026 (Sunday).

  • Exam City Intimation: available about 10 days prior to CBAT (≈ 14 May 2026) — via RRB website / SMS / Email.
  • e-Call Letter (Admit Card): available for download 4 days prior to CBAT (≈ 20 May 2026).
  • Watch your registered email and SMS, and the official RRB website for updates.

Note: Date is tentative and may shift; final confirmation will come through the e-call letter / official intimation.

What is CEN 04/2025 and how many vacancies are there?

CEN 04/2025 is the Centralised Employment Notice issued by Indian Railways for the post of Section Controller — a single Pay Level 6 (₹35,400) Graduate post. Total 368 vacancies across all 21 Railway Recruitment Boards. RRB-wise vacancies are listed in Annexure-B of the detailed notification.

Eligibility: University Degree (any discipline). Age 20-33 years as on 01-01-2026. Medical Standard A-2.

What's today's announcement (8 May 2026)?

Today's announcement is the 1st Stage CBT Result + Zone-wise Cut-Off Marks for shortlisting candidates to the next stage — CBAT. The shortlisting is at 1:8 ratio of vacancies (i.e., 8 candidates shortlisted per vacancy).

Recruitment process — full stages
  1. Single-stage CBT (Computer Based Test) — main scoring stage; 1/3 negative marking; 15 language choices + English
  2. CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test) — qualifying + scoring; for top 8× vacancies from CBT merit
  3. Document Verification (DV) — at 1:1 of vacancies based on combined CBT+CBAT merit (70%-30%)
  4. Medical Examination — Medical Standard A-2 (LASIK candidates NOT eligible)
  5. Final Empanelment & appointment letter
Medical Standard A-2 — full requirements

Section Controller is a safety-critical post; hence the higher Medical Standard A-2. As per Para 3.0 of CEN 04/2025 (and Chapter 5 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual, Vol-I):

How is the final merit calculated?

For DV/Final selection, only candidates who pass CBAT are considered. Final merit is computed as:

  • 70% weightage to CBT marks
  • 30% weightage to CBAT marks

Marks shown in the cutoff PDF are normalised CBT marks (because CBT was conducted in multiple shifts).

What does "Shortlisted for CBAT" mean?

If your roll number appears in the Result PDF for your RRB, you have qualified the CBT and are provisionally called for CBAT. You'll get the CBAT date, time and venue intimation through your registered email/SMS and the official RRB website. Bring your e-call letter, valid photo ID, and follow all banned-item rules at the test centre.

Was there negative marking in CBT?

Yes. 1/3 (0.33) marks were deducted for each wrong answer in CBT. No negative marking is applied to questions left unattempted.

How is the cut-off normalised across multiple CBT shifts?

RRB conducts CBT in multiple sessions/shifts because of the candidate volume. To make merit fair across shifts of varying difficulty, RRB applies a standard score normalisation formula. The values you see in the cut-off table are normalised marks, not raw marks. Don't compare your raw score directly to these cut-offs — your normalised score is what counts.

Cut-off column meanings (UR / SC / ST / OBC / EWS / ESM / PwBD)
  • UR — Unreserved (General)
  • SC — Scheduled Caste
  • ST — Scheduled Tribe
  • OBC — Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer)
  • EWS — Economically Weaker Section
  • ESM / Ex-SM — Ex-Servicemen
  • R-VI / R-HI / R-LD / R-OD / R-MD — Regular PwBD (Visual / Hearing / Locomotor / Other / Multiple Disabilities)
  • B-VI / B-HI / B-LD / B-OD / B-MD — Backlog PwBD
What's the pay scale and job profile of a Section Controller?

Pay: 7th CPC Pay Level 6, initial pay ₹35,400 + DA + HRA + other allowances. Total in-hand around ₹50,000-55,000 per month at start, depending on city.

Role: A Section Controller in Indian Railways is responsible for the safe and timely movement of trains across an assigned section. Working in shifts at the Divisional Control Office, they coordinate with station masters, loco pilots and operations teams to manage train running, dispatching, crossings, and emergencies. It's an operationally critical, technical post — hence the CBAT (aptitude) requirement.

What's CBAT and what does it test?

CBAT is the Computer Based Aptitude Test — a psycho-aptitude assessment that tests qualities essential for safety-critical Railway operations: memory, concentration, perceptual speed, depth perception, attention to detail, decision making. CBAT is qualifying-cum-scoring; you must clear it to be eligible for the final merit list.

Why is there a single category (Cat 1) for Section Controller?

Unlike RRB NTPC which has multiple posts (Cat 1-5: GTM, ASM, CCTC, JAA, SCT), CEN 04/2025 has only one post — Section Controller. Hence the cut-off table shows just Cat 1 with no Railway-Zone column, since selection is RRB-wide for this single post.

What are the next steps for shortlisted candidates?
  1. Download the CBAT e-call letter from your RRB website when intimated (date will be announced separately).
  2. Carry valid photo ID, original e-call letter, and follow all banned-item rules.
  3. If eligible, you may opt for a Scribe (PwBD candidates — see Annexure VIII forms in the detailed CEN).
  4. SC/ST candidates can avail Free Sleeper Class Railway Pass for travel to the exam centre (must opt in via online application, original caste certificate to be shown to TTE).
  5. After CBAT, RRB will publish DV+Medical shortlist at 1:1 of vacancies based on 70% CBT + 30% CBAT merit.

Where is each RRB's official result PDF?

Each RRB publishes its own Result + Cut-Off PDFs on their official website. As soon as a new RRB declares, this page auto-updates with the direct download links for both Result and Cut-Off PDFs. If your RRB still shows "Awaiting", check back tomorrow — most RRBs declare within 1-3 days of each other.

I'm shortlisted — should I start CBAT preparation now?

Yes. CBAT typically follows the CBT shortlist within 4-8 weeks. Use this time to prepare CBAT-specific topics:

  • Test Battery 1 — Memory test
  • Test Battery 2 — Following directions / concentration
  • Test Battery 3 — Perceptual speed
  • Test Battery 4 — Depth perception
  • Test Battery 5 — Decision making / Concentration endurance
  • Test Battery 6 — Attention to detail

RRB CBAT (T-Score normalised) requires minimum 42 in each test battery for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD and minimum 42 in each + 70% composite T-score for UR/EWS to qualify. The CBAT score then contributes 30% to your final merit.

Can I challenge a question or seek revaluation of my CBT?

Question-objection windows close before the result is published. Once CBT result is out (today), there is no provision for re-evaluation of CBT marks. The result and cut-off published by RRB is final for CBT. If your RRB's notice mentions an objection-tracker for technical errors in result-portal display, follow that — but normalised marks themselves are not subject to challenge at this stage.
