Top 200 One Word Substitution (OWS) for SSC with Hindi Meaning
Part A1 of the Blackbook of English Vocabulary, ranked by #R exactly as in the Blackbook app
What is one word substitution?
One word substitution (OWS) asks you to replace a group of words with one word that means the same. "A person who loves mankind and donates money and time" becomes Philanthropist. SSC asks OWS in CGL, CHSL, MTS, CPO, GD, Steno and Selection Post papers, usually one or two questions per shift, and the same words come back again and again.
This page is Part A1, Top 200 OWS Asked in SSC Exams, from the Blackbook of English Vocabulary: the same 200 words, in the same order and with the same #R counts that the Blackbook app shows. They are only about a tenth of the 2,031 one word substitutions asked in SSC (Part A2), but they carry 41% of all repeats.
#R Repetition in exam PYQs. #R is the number of times a word has been asked in previous year papers, as printed beside every word in the Blackbook. It counts SSC papers and other exams together. Philanthropist has #R 30, the highest in the list.
- Read the phrase for its key idea (fear, killing, study of, person who), then match the root.
- Learn word families together: -cide (killing), -phobia (fear), -logy (study), -cracy (rule).
- Watch near misses: SSC often puts Atheist with Agnostic, Theist and Pagan in the same question.
